Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is known as the First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017, since she is the wife of the former US President, Barack Obama. Other than that, she is also an American lawyer, university administrator, and writer. As the first lady, Obama served as a role model for women and worked as an advocate for poverty awareness, education, nutrition, physical activity, and healthy eating.

Michelle has launched a number of empowering initiatives. One of them was Let’s Move which is a campaign launched in 2010 to address childhood obesity in America. The said campaign focused on obesity from all angles to encourage the children to be healthy in their lifestyle, and the companies and schools to offer healthier options.

In 2014, Michelle focused on education to inspire children to succeed in their studies just like how her parents inspired her. Michelle’s Reach Higher initiative encourages the youth to continue their education past high school. Also, it helps the youth in deciding the best path for them and how to use their abilities in going through their chosen path.

Michelle and Barack also launched Let Girls Learn in 2015. This initiative sees the importance of educating girls as a worldwide issue, rather than merely a nationwide issue. It helps girls all around the world to go and stay in school by asking the government to invest more in their girls’ education.

For Michelle Obama, education is empowerment especially when it comes to young girls. Her personal experience in excelling in academics due to her inspiration from her parents led her to success. Michelle’s entire life has been spent learning and teaching: understanding what is important to her and how to display that importance to others.
