Jennifer Lawrence

You may know her as Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, Mystique from X-Men, or Tiffany Maxwell from Silver Linings Playbook, but what you may haven't known was that she is a supporter of Planned Parenthood, a feminist, and has done numerous charitable works amongst others.

For her acting, Lawrence won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance

as a depressed young widow in the romance film Silver Linings Playbook (2012), making her the second-youngest winner of the award. She subsequently won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for playing a troubled wife in the black comedy American Hustle (2013). Lawrence also received Golden Globe Awards for both of these films, and for portraying Joy Mangano in the biopic Joy (2015). She has since starred in the science fiction romance Passengers (2016), the psychological horror film Mother! (2017), and the spy thriller Red Sparrow (2018). Her upcoming works include Red, White and Water, an independent drama directed by Lila Neugebauer, which will be distributed by A24, the Netflix comedy film Don’t Look Up, and portraying the mafia informant Arlyne Brickman in Paolo Sorrentino's film adaptation of Teresa Carpenter's book Mob Girl.

Off-screen, Lawrence showed her support for Planned Parenthood by participating in a video against the defunding of the organization last June 2017 and by speaking out against the November 2015 shooting at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood clinic. She is a feminist, a concept she argues should not intimidate people "because it just means equality". In 2015, she wrote an essay for the Lenny Letter in which she criticized the gender pay gap in Hollywood. She wrote about her own experiences in the industry, such as the lesser salary she received for her work in American Hustle compared to her male co-stars. She also criticized Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis for her opposition to same-sex marriage last 2015 in an interview with Vogue. Lawrence was "raised a Republican", but has subsequently criticized the party's stance on women's rights. She has strongly opposed Donald Trump's presidency, stating in 2015 that his election would "be the end of the world".

Jennifer Lawrence has proved that talent coincides with morals, and vice-versa. Although she is viewed with a "down-to-earth, self-deprecating, unaffected" personality, her passion for acting and for influencing and touching the lives of others through the accolades she received for her artistry truly makes Lawrence one of the most magnanimous beings living today. Jennifer Lawrence is a flower that blossomed so that others may bloom.
