After the assassination, Gabriela swore to avenge her husband's death, so she stepped up and took her husband's place as the leader of the rebellion. With her determination and courage, the rebellion drove off the Spaniards in her hometown. Under her leadership, Gabriela led her men toward victorious battles. But despite this, the rebellion came into the downfall, as she and her army were taken as a prisoner in the mountains of Abra by her husband's killer, Miguel Vicos. Gabriela and her troops were executed by public hanging in Vigan Central Plaza on September 20, 1763, She died at age 32.
